Privacy statement

Information we collect

• Account information from Google Sign-In: your name, email address, and profile image.
• Session data used to keep you signed in, which may include IP address and browser user agent.
• Audio files you upload for transcription, processed for the duration of a generate request.
• Generated subtitle content you save (the .srt text, language, title, and cue count), plus credit balance and ledger entries tied to your account.

How we use your information

• To authenticate your account and maintain a secure session.
• To transcribe your audio into timed subtitle cues and let you review, edit, export, and reopen past exports.
• To meter usage with credits (for example, charging by audio duration) and show your credit history.
• To respond when you contact us for support or feedback.

Audio uploads and third-party processing

• When you generate subtitles, your audio is written to a temporary server file, sent to our speech recognition provider (Google Gemini) for transcription, then deleted from our servers when the request finishes.
• We do not keep a permanent library of your uploaded audio. Google’s processing of that audio is governed by Google’s own terms and privacy policy for the Gemini API.
• Subtitle text returned from transcription may be stored in your account history so you can reopen and edit past exports. You can delete individual saved subtitles from history.

Cookies and local storage

• We use session cookies required for authentication (via Better Auth) so you stay signed in across visits.
• Theme preference may be stored locally in your browser so light or dark mode persists.
• We do not use third-party advertising or analytics cookies.

Data retention

• Account, session, subtitle history, and credit records are kept while your account remains active so the product can work as expected.
• Temporary audio files are removed after each generate job completes (or fails), on a best-effort basis.
• If you want your account or stored subtitle history removed, email us at the address below and we will help.

Sharing

• We do not sell your personal information.
• We share data only with the service providers needed to run the product — today that includes Google for Sign-In and Gemini transcription, plus our hosting and database infrastructure.
• We may disclose information if required by law or to protect the security and integrity of the service.

Your choices

• You can sign out at any time. You can delete saved subtitles from your history in the app.
• You can request access to or deletion of account data by emailing us. Because sign-in is through Google, you can also revoke app access from your Google account settings.

Changes

• We may update this statement as the product changes. The “Last updated” date at the top will change when we do. Continued use of Desi Subtitles after an update means you accept the revised statement.
