Privacy Policy
Last updated: August 6, 2026
This Privacy Policy explains what Desi Subtitles (“we”, “us”, “our”) collects when you use the product, why we need it, how long we keep it, and your choices. By using Desi Subtitles you agree to this Policy and our Terms of Service.
Information we collect
- Account information from Google Sign-In: your name, email address, and profile image.
- Session and diagnostic data used to keep you signed in and troubleshoot failed requests, which may include IP address, browser user agent, device platform, locale and time zone, screen and viewport dimensions, device capability, and network-quality information reported by your browser.
- Audio or video files you upload for transcription, processed for the duration of a generate or related request.
- Generated subtitle content you save (text, language, title, cue count, styles), plus audio-minute balance, purchase, and ledger entries tied to your account.
- Optional messages you send via Contact or feedback forms (email and message content).
- Product analytics events (for example page views and feature usage) collected in aggregate or with a pseudonymous visitor ID — not used for advertising.
How we use your information
- To authenticate your account and maintain a secure session.
- To transcribe your media into timed subtitle cues and let you review, edit, export, and reopen past exports.
- To meter usage by processed audio duration, process payments for minute packs, and show your minute history.
- To operate, secure, debug, and improve the product, including understanding which features are used.
- To respond when you contact us for support or feedback, and to enforce our Terms of Service.
- We do not sell your personal information.
Your content and responsibility
- You control what you upload and what you publish or distribute after using the Service. You are solely responsible for that content and for ensuring you have all rights and permissions needed to upload and process it.
- Generated subtitles and other outputs are produced from your inputs by automated systems. We do not review every upload or output for legality, accuracy, or third-party rights. See our Terms of Service for ownership, warranties, indemnities, and liability limits.
Audio uploads and third-party processing
- When you generate subtitles, your media (or extracted audio) may be written to a temporary server file, processed by speech recognition and related models, then deleted from our servers when the request finishes, on a best-effort basis.
- If a media file cannot be read for duration metering, we may retain that failed file in restricted diagnostic storage for a short, preconfigured period solely to investigate and fix the compatibility issue. We do not use such files for training or a permanent media library.
- We do not keep a permanent library of your uploaded media files. Specialized processing steps may run on trusted infrastructure solely to complete your request.
- Subtitle text and related project data returned from processing may be stored in your account history so you can reopen and edit past exports. You can delete individual saved subtitles from history where the product provides that control.
- Payment processors (for example Razorpay) and sign-in providers (Google) process data under their own policies when you use those features.
Cookies and similar technologies
- We use session cookies and similar technologies required for authentication so you stay signed in across visits.
- Theme preference and similar UI settings may be stored locally in your browser.
- We use privacy-oriented product analytics (Umami Cloud) to understand usage. This is not advertising tracking and is not sold to advertisers.
- We do not use third-party advertising cookies. You can clear cookies and local storage in your browser; doing so may sign you out or reset preferences.
Data retention
- Account, session, subtitle history, and audio-minute records are kept while your account remains active so the product can work as expected.
- Temporary media files are removed after each generate job completes (or fails), on a best-effort basis.
- Where restricted diagnostic retention for unreadable media is enabled, those files are automatically deleted after the short retention period configured for that investigation.
- Payment and ledger records may be retained as needed for accounting, fraud prevention, and legal compliance.
- If you want your account or stored subtitle history removed, contact us through the Contact page and we will help where reasonably practicable.
Sharing
- We share data only with service providers needed to run the product — for example sign-in, hosting, database, analytics, speech processing, and payment infrastructure — under contracts or terms that limit use to providing their services.
- Media is processed only to generate your subtitles and related features you request.
- We may disclose information if required by law, legal process, or to protect the rights, safety, or integrity of the Service, our users, or others.
Your choices
- You can sign out at any time. You can delete saved subtitles from your history in the app where that control is available.
- You can request access to or deletion of account data through the Contact page. Because sign-in is through Google, you can also revoke app access from your Google account settings.
- Applicable privacy laws may give you additional rights (access, correction, deletion, restriction). We will respond to verified requests within a reasonable time.
Security and international processing
- We use reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect data, but no method of transmission or storage is completely secure. You use the Service at your own risk regarding residual security risk.
- Servers and providers may be located in India or other countries. By using the Service you understand your information may be processed in those locations.
Children
- Desi Subtitles is not directed to children under 13 (or the minimum age required in your jurisdiction). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided data, contact us and we will take appropriate steps to delete it.
Changes
- We may update this Policy as the product or law changes. The “Last updated” date at the top will change when we do. Continued use of Desi Subtitles after an update means you accept the revised Policy. Material changes may also be highlighted in-product or on the login page where practical.
