How to Generate Roman Hinglish Subtitles for Premiere Pro
Premiere Pro can transcribe Hindi, but Hindi support does not automatically mean Roman Hinglish output. If choosing Hindi gives you Devanagari and choosing English gives you gibberish, the missing step is script-aware transcription before the SRT reaches Premiere.
Why Premiere Pro returns the wrong script
The Hindi language setting tells speech recognition to listen for Hindi and usually write it in Devanagari. The English setting tells it to interpret the same sounds as English. Neither option expresses the real request: recognize Hindi-English speech and write the Hindi portions in Roman letters.

Generate Hinglish SRT before opening Premiere
- 01
Export or select the clean source audio
Use the original recording when possible. Music, echo, overlapping speakers, and compressed social downloads create avoidable errors.
- 02
Choose Roman Hinglish output
Use a subtitle generator that names Roman Hinglish or transliteration explicitly. Generic Hindi support may still return Devanagari.
- 03
Correct words and cue timing
Review names, brands, English spellings, fast code-switches, and the first and final timestamps before export.
- 04
Export an SRT file
SRT stores the text and cue timestamps in a format Premiere Pro can import without performing speech recognition again.
Import the Hinglish SRT into Premiere Pro
- 01
Import the file
Choose File, then Import, and select the generated .srt file. It appears in the Project panel.
- 02
Add it to the sequence
Drag the imported caption item onto the timeline and choose the subtitle track option when Premiere asks.
- 03
Check sync before styling
Play the first, middle, and final cue. Fix any offset before changing fonts, colors, or placement.
- 04
Style or replace the track
Style the caption track inside Premiere, or use a rendered caption layer when the design has already been finalized elsewhere.
A browser workflow with Desi Subtitles
Desi Subtitles accepts audio or video, generates Roman Hinglish cues, lets you edit text and timing, and exports SRT for Premiere Pro. You can also export transparent or green-screen caption layers when you want to preserve the finished caption design.

Frequently asked questions
Does Premiere Pro support Hinglish transcription?
Premiere Pro supports Hindi transcription, but it may return Devanagari rather than Roman Hinglish. Generate a Roman Hinglish SRT separately when script control matters.
Why not select English for Hindi audio?
The language setting changes what sounds the recognizer expects. Selecting English for Hindi speech usually creates recognition errors rather than Roman Hindi transliteration.
Can I edit an imported SRT in Premiere Pro?
Yes. After import, add the SRT to a caption track and edit the cue text, timing, and appearance in Premiere Pro.
